Hola!

My name is Sheila Rodríguez Machado, and I'm an ichthyologist and evolutionary biologist from Cuba🇨🇺.  My research interests encompass the systematics, evolution, and conservation of fishes.

🥳 Officially a PhD
from Louisiana State University! and super excited to have just started as a Donnelly Postdoctoral Associate in the Near Lab http://www.nearlab.org/ at the
Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies (YIBS).

My research integrates museum collections, fieldwork, and genomics to unravel the macroevolutionary and microevolutionary processes involved in the diversification of fishes in the Neotropics. I'm particularly intrigued about the role of complex island systems in shaping the intricate evolutionary patterns we see today.

I also use my knowledge and opportunities to travel to remote places to bridge the gap between science, research, and the general public by promoting understanding of evolution, equity and inclusion, and contribute to the conservation of species and their habitats.
